drawn with charcoal and white chalk on coloured paper (purple)
the composition is well arranged the objects within the composition rest in the higher up in the rule of thirds rather than central. there is some balance with in the image as the 2 candle holders are on opposite sides from one another which helps to create balance. there is good sense of depth we can see clearly depth between the vases and candle holder the backdrop although has light tone helps to reinforce depth within image.
the main focal points in the composition is the 2 vases as the are centre point within the composition and have a strong highlights with leads the viewer down the image. the white chalk has been used to represent highlights within the image as well as reflections within objects such as the vase. the white chalk help in locating the light source. most of the highlights within this composition are more present on the right side of the image, that and the direction of the shadow on the left candle holder indicate that light source is located on upper right corner of the image.
there is implied line with image such as the white highlights around the drapery. you can see the highlight curve around the drapery, this draws the views eye around the base of the table. this highlight is also an area of interest as we can see the change in tone in the white chalk. as you can see the white chalk has strong tone but as the highlight goes around the drapery we can see a gradual change in the tone. other implied line are the highlights in the vases to the jug. this line leads the viewers eyes from top of the image down towards the drapery.
